Start with the everyday constraint.

Todos Santos, El Pescadero, Cerritos Beach, and Elías Calles are often discussed as one place. They are not. The useful first choice is whether you need a town, a rural daily rhythm, time near the water, or more self-reliant land.

These are starting points, not rankings. Every area contains variation, and the last few kilometers can change your road, utilities, walkability, and beach access. Use the longer guide for each place before treating an area label as an answer.

Town life and errands

Todos Santos

Start here if: walkable errands, restaurants, culture, and a traditional town core matter most. The ocean is nearby, but nearby Pacific beach does not automatically mean a daily swimming plan.

Check before you commit: the actual route from your address to centro, the road surface, water and power setup, and how much distance from town changes your day.

Rural rhythm and access

El Pescadero

Start here if: a quieter, agricultural setting is more important than a complete town core. East and west of Highway 19 can feel like different daily lives, so the area name alone is not enough.

Check before you commit: which side of Highway 19 you are considering, legal access, drainage, the water arrangement, power, and the route to the errands you will actually run.

Beach time and services

Cerritos Beach

Start here if: being close to the beach is central to your day. That is different from a promise of safe swimming on any given day. Conditions, swell, rip currents, access, and services require a current check.

Check before you commit: water source and storage, power and internet at the exact address, road grade after rain, HOA responsibilities where relevant, and the drive for real errands.

Land and self-reliance

Elías Calles

Start here if: rural land, quiet, and a more self-reliant setup fit the life you want. It is not a substitute for a parcel-level review of access, title, water, power, septic, and road conditions.

Check before you commit: the legal route in, the physical route after weather, the exact utility plan, drainage, and what remoteness means for your everyday errands and support.

Route math is a planning tool.

These comparisons use one public reference point for each area. They are useful for seeing the corridor's shape, not for predicting a trip from a specific home or lot.

Route estimates checked August 2, 2026 from the stated reference points; planning guides, not promises. Verify the final pin, turn, road conditions, and time.

An area is not an address.

Utilities, road surface, drainage, beach access, permits, title, legal access, construction activity, and mobile service can change within the same area. Do not use a guide or a listing to infer a property fact.

Access Confirm the legal route and inspect the physical route in the conditions that matter to you.

Water and power Confirm the exact source, storage, backup plan, and operating responsibility.

Land and title Use a qualified notario or attorney for parcel-specific legal and title questions.

Daily fit Drive the address at the hours you will actually use it, not only at a showing.

Start with Buying in Baja for the process and Water, Power and Internet for the practical questions. Both are starting points, not a substitute for property-level verification.

Use this page to narrow the next visit.

This page does not rank areas, forecast price or growth, promise service coverage, or turn beach conditions into a guarantee. It helps you decide where to spend more time.

For a longer stay, read What Nobody Tells You About Moving to Baja. For water conditions and beach safety, use the current beaches and surf guide. Recheck practical routes before you rely on them.

How this is maintained
The area links carry the deeper local context. Route estimates are dated comparisons from public reference points and should be refreshed before a published decision page is released.
